- The first new Klipsch headphones in a decade
- ANC models, with intense and audiophile bass
- Price and specifications to be confirmed
American speaker brand Klipsch and Japanese hi-fi experts Onkyo share a parent company, and to mark 80 years in audio, they have announced some exciting new headphones and speakers, as well as some previews of future hi-fi products.
There’s a lot of interesting stuff coming from both brands, and I think the most interesting new products are the Klipsch Atlas series headphones – they’re the first new headphones from Klipsch in a decade and they look very impressive.
Klipsch Atlas Series headphones: what to expect
The new Atlas series headphones are a trio of premium over-ear headphones that Klipsch says are “the next step beyond their previous Heritage series of headphones.” There will be three new models: HP-1, HP-2 and HP-3.
The HP-3 will be the flagship. They are semi-open headphones that promise “a spacious, speaker-like presentation for audiophiles” with a wide, padded headband, alcantara materials, and perforated ear cups for long-lasting listening comfort.
The HP-2s are closed and emphasize bass response and bass impact – they are aimed squarely at the “bass enthusiast segment”. I think they mean me.
Last but not least are the Atlas HP-1 Wireless ANC Headphones, which have been designed to be ultra-lightweight and durable with “outstanding” battery life. Rather mysteriously, Klipsch says there is “planned third-party feature support for spatial audio and auditory compensation.”
Klipsch will also launch a new generation of its Music City Series Bluetooth speakers, Auracast Bluetooth tabletop speakers and the Flexus Element soundbar, designed for outdoor installations in any weather. It will also update its Reference Premiere speakers and move into more premium sectors with its Reference Signature Series and a new “moonshot” called Project Apollo. Details of this are still sketchy, but Klipsch promises “elevated industrial design, improved materials and new engineering based on Klipsch’s legacy architecture, tuned specifically for audiophiles and listening enthusiasts.”
As for Onkyo, it’s releasing limited-edition 80th anniversary versions of the Creator Series GX-30 and GX-10 powered speakers, launching this summer. It’s also teasing a new “room-filling” tabletop speaker, though details on that one are still under wraps. More details will be announced later this year.
