- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has finally lifted the lid on Egg’s true identity

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 3 debuted on HBO Max and other streaming services, and it finally solves one of the show’s biggest mysteries.
Titled ‘The Squire’, the game of Thrones The last chapter of the prequel reveals Egg’s true identity. And, for viewers who haven’t read The errant knightalso known as the first installment of the ‘Dunk and Egg’ book trilogy, will surprise you as much as Dunk.

What is Egg’s real name in The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Since then AKotSK premiered on HBO Max and other streaming platforms in mid-January, non-book readers have theorized that Egg is hiding a big secret. That said, he is not only a member of House Targaryen but also the youngest son of Prince Maekar Targaryen, who disappeared days ago.
Viewers who made those predictions will feel vindicated by what is revealed in ‘The Squire.’
First, around 10:00 p.m., Egg is surprised when a fortune teller tells Dunk and Egg what their future holds for them individually. What scares Egg? In addition to saying “you will be king,” he tells Egg that he will “die in the fire, the worms will feed on your ashes, and all who know you will rejoice at your death.”
Such comments will immediately prick the ears of Thrones fanatics, because the Westerosi noble family most commonly associated with fire is House Targaryen. However, anyone can be burned alive, so this does not necessarily confirm that Egg is a Targaryen.
However, what happens in the final scene of episode 3 does. While Dunk enjoys a drink or five with his new friend Raymun, they are interrupted by a panicked Egg. He tells Dunk that Aerion Targaryen has attacked Tanselle, a performer for a traveling theater troupe with whom Dunk has fallen in love.
When he sees that Aerion has looted the group’s tent and wounded Tanselle (Aerion considers the group’s dragon-based game blasphemous due to its depiction of the beasts House Targaryen considers sacred), an enraged Dunk attacks the Targaryen prince before being stopped by Aerion’s guards.
Aerion orders his entourage to begin punishing Dunk by pulling out all of his teeth, but upon arriving at the scene, Egg intervenes and pleads for Dunk’s life.
Aerion immediately recognizes the diminutive individual, and after a brief conversation, Egg basically confirms that he is a Targaryen to Dunk and the gathered crowd, and, by proxy, to us. And, although his real name is not said aloud before the end credits of episode 3 roll, Egg is the individual known as Aegon V Targaryen.
Who is Aegon V Targaryen? And have we heard that name before on Game of Thrones?
I’m not going to talk at length about Aegon V Targaryen because, well, there are spoilers for the rest of this season and season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdomswhich HBO Max announced along with many other TV show renewals last November.
What I will say, however, is that he is a future king of Westeros and has a very important role to play in the future of the continent and the Thrones universe in general. You can read more about him online if you really want more details about what’s in store for him.
This also isn’t the first time Egg has been mentioned in one of HBO’s adaptations of George RR Martin’s beloved fantasy universe. In episode 7 of game of Thrones In Season 5, a delirious Maester Aemon calls out to someone named Egg on his deathbed. As we learned that Aemon is a Targaryen in episode 9 of Thrones‘ first season, it is clear that it is related to Egg. Only those who have read the Thrones The books, however, were able to make this connection before AKotSK Episode 3 released on one of the best streaming services in the world.
That’s not the only thing that unites Egg with Thrones‘Sweeping story. In fact, Aegon V Targaryen is also the grandfather of Aerys II Targaryen, also known as The Mad King.
For the uninitiated: Aerys was the sixteenth and last Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne. He is also responsible for concocting the wildfire plot that would have destroyed King’s Landing (and killed countless innocents in the process) during the final event of the great civil war known as Robert’s Rebellion.
However, Aerys’ plan was thwarted when Jaime Lannister, one of Aerys’ Kingsguard, murdered him to prevent all those deaths. So when Egg’s fortune is told in ‘The Squire’, it’s likely that, despite the fortune teller’s line “you will be king”, he’s actually talking about Aerys with the whole fire and worm business.
What will happen to Dunk after episode 3 of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
