Call me silly for nostalgia, but for a long time I wanted to have in my hands the impressive 21street-The version of the Kodak Super 8 century. Now I have found something that scratches that itching without requiring to handle my house again: the Snap CS-8 camp.
Kodak revived Super 8 last year, and it’s really special. Supplied in a movie case as full foam with a removable lens of 6 mm and an 8 mm film package, the iconic homemade camera of the top of the 1960s can record analog and digital videos and is built with impeccable standards. The sale price of water eyes reflects that: it costs $ 5,495 (around £ 4,350 / au $ 8,450).
For those who are looking for a photo of nostalgia at a cost that is a bit tastier, there is always the option to choose an original Super 8 good quality camera in the used market. Or you could simply go cheap, modern and digital. Take a step forward with Snap CS-8 of the camp, launching very soon.
If the name sounds a bell, it is because the company of the Redondo Beach company, California, is responsible for the small, distinctive and vibrant digital camera of aiming and shooting without screen of the same nickname. Clearly, the SNAP of the camp does not work as a Fujifilm X100IV, and in fact, it is less that it is lost the point of comparing it with what most of us could classify as a “real” digital camera. But I think that his simplicity and “at the moment” discreet make it perfect to document weekend trips or deliver children to take their first steps to photography. Basicity is the point.
Pull that trigger
The CSA Snap CS-8 provides that same low technology and high approach in Chamas to a digital camcorder. Like the Super 8 of the past based on the film, it has a pistol grip design, recording when the user contains the trigger, stopping when it is thrown. A small electronic viewfinder is used, but only for the live composition: there are no navigate menus and there are no options to reproduce recordings in the camera. Instead, the recording is stored on the SD card (a 4 GB card comes in the box) and can be downloaded to your computer via USB-C (it is also used to recharge the battery).
The CS-8 comes with a selection of digital filters and the option to turn between four aspect relationships (1: 1, 9:16, 4: 3 or 16: 9) in the march, which allows users to record clips ready for social networks without the need for any edition outside the camera. All these are selected by twisting the dials to the old one, while the duration and storage of the remaining battery can be traced looking at the needle position in an analog meter. The only other control that should worry are the buttons that are approaching and leave.
The price of all this retro beauty? Only $ 199 (which currently becomes around £ 147 / au $ 302), with early orders that begin on July 31. That is only 3.64% the price of the new Super 8 of Kodak.
