KP Apex Committee meeting decides to remove all bunkers in Kurram

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Supreme Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, held a special meeting on the security situation in Kurram district of the province, Express News reported.

The meeting was attended by Federal Home Minister, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other senior civil and military officials. The current situation in Kurram district was reviewed in detail.

According to the Apex Committee, challenges will persist until the bunkers are removed and weapons collected, but the situation will improve thereafter.

Both the federal and provincial governments agreed to joint actions and collaboration. Dialogue with both parties will be carried out through tribal elders.

As the situation improves, roads and routes will be opened and supply of medicines and other essential goods to Kurram will continue. The federal and provincial governments will jointly make decisions to improve the situation.

Earlier, Chief Minister Gandapur had reiterated that the provincial government was committed to ensuring permanent peace in Kurram, as per the cabinet directive.

The decision to remove bunkers and weapons was considered a necessary step to achieve this goal.

Naqvi and Gandapur meet to discuss peace in Kurram

Ahead of the Apex Committee meeting, Federal Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi and KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur held a meeting to address the ongoing law and order crisis in Kurram district, which has seen more than 130 deaths in clashes in recent weeks.

During the meeting, Naqvi offered full cooperation to the KP government and emphasized improving law enforcement capabilities. Both leaders paid tribute to security personnel martyred in the fight against terrorism.

The higher committee meeting, attended by civilian and military officials, is expected to focus on restoring peace, providing essential goods and addressing the long-term stability of the region. CM Gandapur also announced subsidized wheat for Kurram residents.
