KP approves cannabis rules, free textbooks

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a supplementary subsidy RS1 billion for the scheme “Provision of textbooks and free school bags in fused districts” and directed the preparation of a comprehensive plan in this regard.

On Thursday, he presided over a marathon meeting of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The cabinet also approved the rules of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (cultivation, extraction, refining, manufacturing and sale of cannabis plants derivatives for medicinal research, industrial and commercial purposes), 2025. The regulatory framework will allow the provincial government to supervise cannabis production for medicinal and industrial use.

The cabinet approved a review in the cost of the project ‘Lack of basic facilities in the schools’ under the conditional subsidies program and also reviewed the ceiling of expenses in the guidelines of the Masters of Teachers (PTC). The annual expenses limit for PTC has increased from RS.05 million to RS.07 million, with emphasis on the transparent and efficient use of these funds.

In addition, the cabinet approved the restoration and improvement of the subsidy to the return of Deeni Madaris, releasing RS1 billion for that purpose.

In the health sector, a new ‘transplant and implant scheme Sehat’ was launched. Under this initiative, the provincial government will cover the cost of bone marrow transplants, liver and kidney, as well as cochlear implant, for eligible patients throughout the province.

The cabinet granted an exemption to the Department of Health of the Standard Procedures to lease the property of the local government for the construction of civil dispensaries in the high -risk union councils related to Peshawar’s polyomyelitis.

He also approved the merger of the Governor’s Inspection Team (GIT) with the Provincial Inspection (PIT) team as the git had become redundant after Fata’s fusion and amendments in the Law of Universities, 2012.

The approval for the construction of the remaining section of the Northern Peshawar road was awarded, from Warsak Road to Nasir Bagh Road. The prime minister instructed that the new section be linked to Hayatabad industrial heritage for better connectivity.

He also approved the bill of the Government Housing Foundation of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, 2025. According to the scheme, government servers will receive plots for the construction of houses properly.

The Cabinet decided that instead of hiring legal advisor for the constitution of the antarctic case of force (petition No. 11 of 2020) and others, in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the general lawyer Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will defend the province. He also approved a RS30 million subsidy for the KP Bar Council.

The cabinet approved RS3.6 billion for the purchase of sanitation vehicles for 132 TMA of the province. The cabinet emphasized the importance of maintaining cleaning and protecting the environment in all areas.

To address the growing water needs of the population of PESHAWAR, the cabinet approved the cost of construction of the admission structure and the tunnel for a drinking water supply scheme of the Hydroelimal project of the Mohmand dam, to be financed by provincial resources.
