Local government employees in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) staged a protest in front of the KP Assembly building, demanding the release of municipal funds that had not been provided by the provincial government.

But the protest became tense when police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters, according to Express News.

The protesting employees had given a deadline of January 1 for the government to release the funds, which they say are essential for the functioning of local bodies.

The deadline passed without any response from government officials or signs of action, prompting workers to carry out their protest at the KP Assembly.

Holding banners and chanting slogans against the provincial government, the employees blocked Khyber Road in front of the assembly building.

Protesters expressed frustration over the government’s failure to meet their demands and provide necessary funds for local governance.

In an attempt to remove protesters, police used force, including baton charges and tear gas.

While the protesters briefly dispersed, they regrouped and proceeded to block GT Road, continuing their protest.
