PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Sunday announced a huge development package of Rs 1 trillion for the merged districts of the KP, with Rs 400 billion earmarked for health and education.

Speaking at the Bajaur Sports Complex after meeting Qaumi Aman Jirga leaders, Afridi said the development plan would cover key sectors aimed at improving living standards in the districts.

The chief minister said the PTI provincial government is committed to ensuring that resources are spent for the welfare of the people.

He also announced several projects specific to Bajaur, including the establishment of a university campus, which will link the district with the Dir and Swat highways, and the revival of the Bajaur Nursing School, which has been closed since 2007.

He assured the participants that all demands put forward in the jirga’s bylaws would be accepted and that no negligence in the execution of development plans would be tolerated.

“Public tax money will be spent on the public,” he said, promising transparency and timely delivery.

Addressing the meeting, which was attended by tribal elders, political and religious leaders and a large number of people, Afridi expressed gratitude for their efforts in maintaining peace in the former tribal areas.

He said the wisdom shown by the tribal elders in handling difficult situations was commendable and emphasized that peace remains the top priority, without which development and prosperity are not possible.

The premier said the provincial government is striving to achieve sustainable peace and achieving this goal requires the participation of all stakeholders.

He referred to a unanimous declaration adopted in the provincial assembly by leaders of all political parties, which stated that military operations are not a solution to the prevailing problems.
