Lahore DSP arrested for murdering his wife and daughter and filing fake FIR

The mystery surrounding the alleged kidnapping of the wife and minor daughter of a Lahore-based deputy superintendent of police ended on Saturday after the police arrested the officer and he confessed to having killed both victims and filing a false kidnapping case.

According to police sources, Muhammad Usman Haider, earlier posted as DSP Investigation Kahna, admitted during interrogation that he had murdered his wife and daughter following a prolonged domestic dispute.

Following the incident, he lodged a false first information report (FIR) at the Barki police station, alleging that they had been kidnapped.

The FIR claimed that the DSP’s wife and daughter had gone missing on September 27, while a written application for registration of the kidnapping case was filed on October 18.

The police launched the investigation after the case was registered, while the victim’s sister also approached the authorities, expressing suspicions that Usman was involved in her disappearance.

Forensic teams recovered blood samples from the suspect’s residence, particularly from the bed and door. The lab reports raised further suspicions, prompting senior officers to confront the DSP during a high-level investigation. “After the forensic findings were presented to him, the suspect confessed to the crime,” a police officer said.

The bodies were later recovered in different places. Police said the daughter’s body was found in Kahna, while the wife’s body was recovered in Sheikhupura.

Investigators revealed that both had initially been buried as unidentified deceased persons. Police said the motive for the crime appears to be a property dispute.

The DSP had entered into two marriages and had purchased a 10 marla plot of land in the name of his first wife. He later allegedly sold the land without her consent and used the proceeds for his brother’s wedding, which allegedly led to frequent altercations.

During interrogation, the suspect said that he had killed his wife with a sharp weapon, which has since been recovered. Police said they were continuing to investigate the circumstances of the daughter’s murder and whether facilitators were involved.

A close aide of the suspect was also detained for questioning, while the DSP’s second wife was included in the investigation, police sources said.

A police spokesman said: “The accused will be prosecuted strictly on his merits and punished in accordance with the law.”
