Islamabad:
The National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the National Communications Committee of the Communications Assembly that the land acquisition for the M-6 Sukkur-Hyderab highway project was expected to begin within a month.
The M-6 project is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with funds from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The NHA told the Committee that it requested the early approval of the bank’s acquisition, and added that it would formally write to the Sindh government to initiate land acquisition procedures.
The committee, which met here with Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani in the president, reviewed a variety of crucial infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connectivity and road safety. The meeting also reviewed Ministry’s responses to their previous recommendations.
The Committee expressed its discontent for the absence of the Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and issued a severe warning that not repeated assistance would be presented to the Chamber Committee and privilege for the necessary actions.
The participants expressed concern about the third increase in the NHA toll rate in a short period, saying that the increase seemed to contradict the NHA rate review policy every three years. The Committee instructed the NHA to provide a detailed justification at the next meeting.
The Inspector General (IG) of the highway police informed the Committee on the legal framework under which the cases were registered against motorists, exceeding the speed limit of 150 kilometers per hour on the highways.
