RAWALPINDI:
The Rawalpindi District Bar Association has warned that if the administration does not resolve the ongoing issues related to the Kacheri Chowk expansion and redevelopment project within two days, the lawyers will forcibly open the closed roads on November 10.
The association said it closely followed the project from the beginning and cooperated with district authorities and other stakeholders.
In the presence of Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Assistant Commissioner (Cantonment), areas belonging to the bar association were marked and handed over for construction.
The old Hamza block, the mosque and the adjoining chambers were demolished as marked, and the reconstruction of the affected mosque is being carried out by the bar association on a self-help basis. The affected lawyers have also begun to rebuild their offices.
However, the association accused the administration of failing to plan alternative routes and parking facilities, causing immense problems to lawyers, court staff and litigants.
They warned the authorities not to exceed the agreed limits and demanded the immediate allocation of substitute land, the construction of the promised parking space and compensation for the destroyed properties.
Bar association leaders warned that any coercive action by the administration would be resisted and they would hold the authorities responsible for any confrontation.
With the start of work on the project, the city Traffic Police said commuters traveling from Rawat via Jhelum Road towards the old airport would use Bahria Phase 1 and High Court Road.
Those heading from Jhelum Road towards Peshawar Road and New Airport would take Morgah Turn and other routes.
