Islamabad:
A subcommittee from the Permanent Committee of Information Technology of NA met Thursday to review the current issue of the outstanding quotas owed by long -distance and international companies (LDI) to the PTA.
The panel decided to seek the legal opinion of the Ministry of Law regarding the issue of recovery.
During the meeting, the president of the PTA declared that the authority is not empowered to allow payments based on quotas for the recovery of the quotas of the LDI operators. “The PTA does not have the authority to restructure or differ the payment of quotas in installments,” he said.
The president of the PTA added that several rounds of meetings have been held with unfulfilled LDI companies, but their position on the reimbursement of the quotas continues to defer.
“After listening to their views, we have issued letters to companies, and a clear decision has been communicated; pending quotas must be paid in full, including late payment charges,” he said.
LDI representatives declared that they had offered the PTA to pay the main amount in installments and express their disposition to issue checks with a later date.
The PTA insisted that all fees, including late rates, must be deposited in a warranty deposit account.
LDI representatives argued that there was a lack of clarity in government policy regarding the renewal of their licenses.
The secretary of IT observed that the problem of the quotas with the LDI companies was not “simple”, pointing out that each company had a different position. “Any decision made by the Government will establish a precedent for the recovery of quotas in other sectors,” he said.
The president of the PTA revealed that not all LDI companies have agreed to pay the main amount.
