New York giants took third place in Abdul Carter de Penn State with the dream that one day he could be in his honor ring, solidifying a place as one of the best players to wear his shirt.
But that shirt will not present number 56 as you would like.
The number 56 belonged to perhaps the largest defensive weapon that NFL has seen: Lawrence Taylor. He was retired by the giants in 1994 to honor the supporter of the Hall of Fame, and intends to keep him like this despite the fact that Carter mentions his desire to use it.

Carter, however, is using the comment of “obtaining another number” of Lawrence as a fuel for his own fire in his rookie campaign with Big Blue.
“The worst thing I could say was not! My position does not change, LT is the [goat emoji]. Nothing more than respect … This will only make me work even harder! I love it, “he wrote in X.
Carter’s comment derives from Taylor, who is asked about the product of the Penn State just after being recruited by New York.

He spoke with his partner Nittany Lion Micah Parsons, the star corridor of the Dallas Cowboys, who will now be an enemy. Parsons and Carter used the number 11 on Penn State, so the first one asked the second if he took that tradition to the NFL.
The problem with that number is that the former Field Marshal of the Giants, Phil Simms, also retired for him, but Carter said he was looking at Taylor’s number 56, to which Parsons and his bleach report reacted with astonishment.
The New York Post asked Taylor about Carter’s potential number, and it was clear that he would not share it.

“I know he would love to use that number,” Taylor said. “But, hey, I think it’s retired. Get another number. I don’t care if it’s double zero and then make it famous.”
The previous selection of the first round of the giants, the open receiver Malik Nabers, received the blessing of Ray Flaherty’s family last season to use his number one retired. So, a request is not out of the common for the franchise.
But Taylor wants Carter to forge his own path in the NFL, and make the giant fans remember him for his own number on his back.
Of course, Carter would love to have a career remotely near Taylor’s.

It was 10 times Pro Bowler, twice super bowl champion, the MVP of the 1986 League and the three -time AP Defensive Player during his 13 seasons in the League, all with the giants.
Taylor accumulated 142 career catches in 184 games after being taken in second place in the 1981 NFL draft outside North Carolina.
