We are only two weeks away from the launch of crimson desert (at the time of writing), and based on the trailers released to the world, as well as the first trailers that a few have been able to experience, this game is already being compared to GTA 6 in terms of hype and the spectacular vision it could offer, and it is causing questions for some.
We’ve all been there: flashy trailers, cherry-picked previews, bold promises building the hype higher and higher, before reality destroys the dream. While crimson desert has not yet been released, some are already preparing for possible disappointment.
For starters, a large portion of the internet has pointed out that despite the console’s promised launch and PSSR support for the PS5 Pro upgrade, everything we’ve seen of the game so far has been based on PC gameplay. Because PCs can be equipped with absurdly high specifications that most normal people won’t have access to, it’s a tactic some use to make their titles look better than they really are.
In response to this, Will Powers, director of marketing at Pearl Abyss, the team behind crimson desertHe took advantage of X to insist: “We are not hiding anything.”
He added: “We will reveal things before launch to give people enough time to pre-order the game for themselves. We say it openly… Are we going to cook?”
When this was shared on the Crimson Desert subreddit, he responded by saying that while people have the right to transparency, people “demanding information about your schedule is a right, and that must end.”
There’s a note of exasperation in Powers’ words, and checking his social media it’s clear that he’s been fighting these claims for a while on some platforms. That said, the easy answer would be to simply give us PS5 images of a game announced in 2019 (which Powers admits was “too soon”). It’s not that there hasn’t been time to put together a trailer suitable for a single PlayStation Direct.
Nothing to hide
At the risk of being proven wrong in a fortnight, I don’t think Pearl Abyss has anything to hide.
In images shared with Digital Foundry, the development team showed the game running at 4K 60fps with Ultra quality settings on years-old technology, including a Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XTX, a decidedly cutting-edge CPU and GPU combination.
Look
This impressive performance is attributed to Pearl Abyss’ BlackSpace engine, which Crimson Desert runs on. This would give the team much better control over how to optimize the platform to get the absolute best performance out of the systems.
That said, the PC visuals aren’t the same as the PS5, especially since the PC specs above would be more powerful than the Sony console, so I hope we get a proper look at them. crimson desert on console soon.
In any case, if you are not sure that crimson desert It will live up to the hype, just wait. There is no need to reserve a game and it is not even necessary to purchase it on the first day. Wait for first impressions to be published, wait for reviews, and then make a decision; Even if the risk seems low, it’s safer to wait, especially if your budget isn’t big enough to cover burning.
