An elevator in the premesis of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC) submerged from the second floor to the ground floor on Thursday, in the second incident of this type reported in the court in recent days.
Fortunately, no victims were reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the malfunction elevator had seven people inside at that time, including lawyers.
The situation caused panic, but all occupants were safely evacuated after the maintenance personnel of the court manually unlocks the doors using a key.
Court officials have not yet issued a statement about the cause of malfunction, but concerns about the security of elevation in the building have grown.
The incident follows a similar setback in which the prominent lawyer Latif Khosa and another ten were trapped within an elevator in the same facilities last year.
The lawyers remained trapped for approximately 45 minutes before being rescued by rescue officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The incident, which occurs shortly after the appearance of Khosa in the case of Toshakhana against Imran, left lawyers in a narrow space without lights or a fan.
Naeem Haider Panjotha and Ali Ejaz Buttar were among the lawyers trapped in the elevator.
Meanwhile, trapped lawyers quickly circulated on social networks, generating concerns and accusations of alleged “harassment.”
It was later revealed that the elevator was potentially overloaded, leading more people than their capacity.
The administration of the Superior Court was accused of doing nothing to get the lawyers trapped from the elevator. The IHC moved to his news building last year.
