- Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 promises higher brightness for 2026 screens
- This is the next generation version of the technology used in the LG G5 OLED TV
- LG OLED comes in two categories: Tandem WOLED and Tandem OLED
LG Display also makes OLED panels for tons of the best OLED TVs and PC monitors, and that means any changes to their panels will have a huge ripple effect. So a video showing off its 2026 technology and panels is intriguing, as is a big rebrand that (somewhat) adds simplicity to its naming conventions.
LG is rebranding its panels in the run-up to CES 2026, where it will show off its latest generation of products. And the first part of the rebrand is to label its panels for monitors and televisions as ‘Tandem WOLED’. The W stands for “white” in reference to the extra white light sources that LG OLEDs use to increase brightness. ‘Tandem’ means that multiple layers of OLED pixels are used within the panel.
The second part of the branding is labeling OLEDs for mid-sized devices (laptops, tablets, in-car systems, etc.) as “Tandem OLEDs.” These panels do not use an additional white element and have an RGB subpixel structure on each layer; ‘Tandem WOLED’ panels, on the other hand, use only one pixel color per layer.
That’s not all. LG Display is also teasing multiple OLED panels and ‘Primary RGB Tandem 2.0’ technology, which seems to go against the simplicity of the rebrand, but will presumably be under the ‘Tandem WOLED’ umbrella overall.
But the interesting thing is not the name, but what it will probably offer. The first generation of primary RGB tandem panels are used in models like the LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B, as well as some of the best gaming monitors, so a significant update for their successors seems imminent.

What is LG Display teasing by 2026?
According to FlatpanelsHD, Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 technology is expected to “increase brightness more than in 2025.” And in a YouTube video showing “the next level of gaming: Tandem WOLED,” LG Display shows off several large WOLEDs for gaming monitors.
The video features a panel that has been rumored for some time, a 39-inch curved WOLED with a 5K 5120×2160 resolution. It appears to have a more subtle curve than the previous panels.
And it also shows a 27-inch “high ppi” Tandem WOLED that FlatpanelsHD suspects is UHD/4K based on its model number, 27U. That would put it directly against Samsung Display’s 27-inch 4K QD-OLED. The video also shows off a previously announced panel, the 27Q, which is a 540Hz 1440p panel with 720Hz dual mode.
However, the video doesn’t tell us much about the image quality improvements we can expect from version 2.0 of the technology, which would be more relevant for televisions: the video claims up to 1500 nits of maximum brightness, but that’s what the previous version also promised.
We’ll hear a lot more from LG Display, and everyone else in the TV industry, at CES 2026, which is just a few weeks away. Meanwhile, LG has unveiled its new Micro RGB TVs, which use next-generation mini-LED backlighting.
