LG’s first laptop LCD screen is supercharged to save battery, and an OLED version is coming soon

  • LG Display is now mass producing its world’s first LCD panel
  • The unique feature is VRR, which can be adjusted up to 1Hz to save power with static on-screen content.
  • The OLED version of this technology currently has a 20 Hz implementation, but a 1 Hz version will arrive in 2027.

LG Display has announced that mass production of its first LCD panel in the world has just begun, with the particularity that it has a variable refresh rate (VRR) that can go down to just 1 Hz, and in 2027 an OLED version of this formula will arrive.

Tom’s Hardware highlighted LG’s press release explaining: “To achieve this world-first, the company developed its own circuit algorithms and panel design technology, discovering new materials and applying the oxide with the least power leakage during low refresh rate mode to the display’s thin film transistor.”
