Judge Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, which serves at the Rawalpindi Bank of the LHC, presented on Thursday his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari, requesting his immediate acceptance.
After his resignation, he stopped doing his judicial duties and informed the president of the LHC, Aalia Neelum, of his decision. In his renunciation letter, Judge Aziz cited personal commitments as the reason to resign.
The president of the Bar Association of the Superior Court of Lahore (LHCBA) and higher lawyers expressed surprise for their resignation, qualifying it as a significant loss for the Judiciary.
Judge Chaudhry Abdul Aziz was appointed LHC judge in November 2016 and had been serving in this capacity during the last eight and a half years. During his term, he issued decisions in a record of 40,000 cases.
He held the 19th place in the list of seniority judges and was scheduled to retire on September 8, 2033, which means that he had eight more years in his judicial career. Known for his professionalism and independence, he was considered a judge who did not succumb to any external pressure.
