LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has decided to fill up all the approved judges’ posts in the provincial high court and has started the process of appointing judges to the vacant posts.
The approved strength of judges in the LHC is 60, but currently 42 judges, including the Chief Justice, are serving, while 18 posts remain vacant.
Due to these vacancies, the caseload has increased, putting additional burden on serving judges. Once the appointments are made, the Provincial Court, for the first time in its history, will function with full powers. The move is expected to help in timely resolution of cases.
