Islamabad:
The LHC judge, Sultan Tanvir Ahmad, while announced a reserved verdict on the petition presented by the president of the Kisan Board, Zafar Hussain, on the non -fixation of wheat prices, has addressed the Punjab government to implement the law to establish wheat prices.
The Court also included in its decision the report of the Department of Agriculture on the cost per maund – 40 kg – of wheat.
He pointed out that the government lawyer declared that a law for price determination has been promulgated. However, he said, government institutions did not fulfill their constitutional role.
Citing the report of an agriculture department, he said that the cost per 40 kg of wheat this year is RS3,533.
The Order declared that government institutions have recognized that wheat is a vital component of food security. The president of the Kisan Board had approached the LHC on April 8, 2025, due to the failure of the provincial government to establish wheat prices.
