- The new rules of Etsy redefine what “handmade” means
- Surprised sellers while Etsy silently updates their 3D printing policy
- Popular 3D impressions can no longer comply with ETSY’s originality test
ETSY has updated its creativity standards policy, adjusting the rules on what qualifies as handmade or original in its popular market.
The most commented change affects 3D printed products, since only the articles based on the designs of a seller will now meet the criteria. This seems to exclude many popular products, including flexible dragons (articulated dragon figures such as the previous one, with or without eggs), which are often made of designs with a third -party creators.
The change fell under the radar at the beginning since ETSY did not make a public announcement, instead, silently placing the news in a community newsletter on the safe maintenance of the market.
It must be based on the original seller design
The vendors discovered the change while reading the small legacy under “the rules of our house.” The word extends quickly, and 3D printing forums illuminate with concern and confusion.
As Tom hardware Reports, when ETSY was launched in 2005, were handmade articles and vintage findings. Over time, dropshippers and mass produced products have flooded the platform.
ETSY began to respond to this problem in 2024 with new creativity standards that emphasize originality and a human touch.
Everything is assumed on the site now falls into four loose categories: made, designed, selected or obtained by the seller.
Most 3D printing vendors believed they were covered by “made by the seller”, since they print items themselves. ETSY has now clarified that these products should also be based on the original seller designs.
That detail now places thousands of current lists in violation of politics, but it has been suggested that creators could avoid change by adding customization to their creations and offering unique photos and descriptions of their listings.
ETSY has not prohibited 3D impression directly, and there is no suggestion that he ever planns to do so. Sellers can still create and sell their own designs on the site, as well as make use of alternative platforms, such as eBay and Tiktok.
