Lions, Nilgai calves, rescued deer from Bahawalnagar flooded


The Rangers of Wildlife of Punjab have rescued two orphan closets of Nilgai (blue bulls) of Haroonabad, a border area of ​​Bahawalnagar, after they separated from their mother during the recent floods.

The calves have been transferred to the Bahawalnagar Zoo, where they are being fed by hand and special care is provided.

According to wildlife officials, emergency operations are underway in districts affected by floods to protect vulnerable wild species. Until now, eight deer have been rescued and transferred to veterinary fields to receive medical treatment.

On August 26, a couple of deer was saved across the border towards Sialkot with flood waters, while on August 27, a pregnant and wound deer was rescued in Narowal and provided medical help. Another young deer was insured in Shakargarh.

Similar rescue operations in Muridke, Wazirabad and Mandi Bahauddin led to the safe recovery of three male and two female deer.

Previously in Lahore, six lions trapped in a farm along the Ravi near Finen Road were also evacuated and transferred to a safe place, where they receive veterinary attention.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, praised the ongoing operations, stating that the rangers and rescue teams had given a remarkable example by risking their own lives to protect wildlife in danger of extinction during difficult circumstances.

She reiterated that the Punjab government considers that the protection of wildlife is a priority and “will not leave any abandoned living creature in times of crisis.”

Meanwhile, the Rangers of Wildlife have intensified operations against illegal hunting and the quail network in the province.

Multiple hunting tools have been confiscated, dozens of challenged criminals and fines that are equivalent to millions of rupees imposed in districts such as Bahawalnagar, Jhelum, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bhakkar.
