He Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games It will be the first in history to schedule the women’s 100 meters track final on the opening day of the competitions and move the men’s event to the second day.
The full LA28 schedule was released on Wednesday, with organizers announcing the unprecedented change to prioritize the women’s category.
“The women’s 100 meters will be one of the most watched events and we wanted to start with a showcase of the fastest women in the world,” LA28 Games head of sport and organization Shana Ferguson told reporters.

The opening day, July 15, will feature the three rounds of the women’s 100 meters. Typically, women’s track athletes run a maximum of two events per day at the Olympic Games. Therefore, the three events in one day will also be unexplored territory for the category and its athletes.
The move to give female sprinters early attention comes at a time of growing popularity of women’s sports in the U.S. and global focus on protecting the women’s category from biologically male trans athletes.
According to multiple reports this week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is moving toward enacting a new policy that will ban trans athletes from competing as women.
President donald trump suggested in August that there would be some type of genetic testing at the Los Angeles Olympics to ensure that no men compete in women’s events.

Dr. Jonathan Finnoff, chief medical officer of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), told reporters last month that the USOPC is exploring options to make SRY gene testing available to U.S. sports governing bodies ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics.
Other highlights from the LA 28 calendar
american flag football will make its Olympic debut in 2028, with men’s and women’s competition beginning July 15 at Exposition Park Stadium, where all flag football games will be held.
The men’s gold medal game will take place on Friday, July 21, and the women’s gold medal game will take place the following day, Saturday, July 22.
Baseball and softball will return to the Olympics after being absent from the Paris Games last summer.
All baseball games will be held in Dodger Stadiumstarting Thursday, July 13. The gold medal game will take place on Wednesday, July 19.
The softball games will be played at OKC Softball Park, beginning Sunday, July 23, and the gold medal game will take place on Saturday, July 29.

Basketball, which the United States has dominated for the past three decades, will begin two days before the women’s opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 12, and one day before the men’s opening ceremony on Thursday, July 13. The women’s gold medal match will take place on Saturday, July 29 and the men’s final will be on Sunday, July 30. basketball games will take place at the Inglewood Dome.
In total, the 2028 Olympic Games calendar will see seven competitions held before the opening ceremony, which is historically unusual.
There will also be a ‘Super Saturday’ on July 29 (the 15th), which will include 26 finals in 23 sports.
