Louisiana government to attend Sugar Bowl, promises Superdome ‘completely safe’

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said Thursday he will attend the Sugar Bowl between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish after a terrorist attack left more than a dozen people dead in New Orleans.

The game was moved from Wednesday night to Thursday night after the terrorist attack. The game will now begin around 4 pm ET.

Landry appeared on “Fox & Friends” and promised that security would be tough.

“Security is going to be strict,” he said. “We are all confident that we are going to host this game. The Superdome is completely secure. Once again, the FBI continues to invest resources in the state.”

Landry’s comments came as authorities searched for persons of interest in connection with the Shamsud-Din Jabbar attack on Bourbon Street. He was the suspect who drove a truck into a crowd before dying in a shootout with police officers.

The attack left 15 dead and several injured.

Jabbar had posted videos on social media before his attack expressing loyalty to the Islamic State. The FBI investigation has spread to several states, although the number of possible persons of interest is unknown.

“FBI special agents and our law enforcement partners are currently carrying out a series of court-authorized search warrants in New Orleans and other states,” the office said in a statement. “The FBI Evidence Response Team continues to process the crime scene to meticulously gather all relevant evidence.”

The FBI said it does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found weapons and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device inside Jabbar’s truck along with other devices in other parts of the French Quarter.
