Hyderabad:
The appointment of a Junior Professor as Vice Chancellor (PRO VC) of the University of Medical Sciences and Health Sciences of Liaquat (LUMHS), Jamshoro, has caused a strong opposition of the members of the Senior Faculty.
The Lumhs Deans Committee called a meeting on Tuesday to express discontent about the decision of the Sindh government to appoint Dr. Arshad Hussain Abro as the new PRO VC. “The committee emphasized that antiquity must be respected in the decision -making process, since the government has recently designated a junior candidate for the position,” reads a statement issued after the meeting. The members of the committee also expressed their disappointment with Sindh’s prime minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, for the appointment.
The notification of the appointment of Dr. Abro, as of April 18, was issued earlier this week by the Secretary of Universities and Boards, Muhammad Abbas Baloch. It is ready to replace the current Pro VC, Prof Dr. Sema Naz, who will retire on April 17.
The deans urged the government of Sindh to reconsider the appointment to relieve the growing dissatisfaction among the teachers.
Separately, the Bank of the Hyderabad Circuit of the Superior Court of Sindh (SHC) remained on Tuesday the appointment of Dr. Abro and issued notices to the Provincial Government, Secretary Baloch, the Secretary of Health and the Lumhs Registrar. The stay was awarded in response to a request presented by the owner PRO VC.
His legal advisor informed the court that Dr. Sema was appointed Pro VC for a period of four years on August 30, 2024, and his mandate will conclude in August 2028. The petition also argued that several high -level teachers were overlooked a designated Junior.
The petitioner also pointed out that the Lumhs union had previously forbidden Dr. open to occupy administrative positions. In light of this, the SHC suspended the summary of the provincial government of March 26 with respect to the appointment of Dr. Abro, and ordered the respondents to present their answers before April 22.
Those present at the meeting included the Dean of Basic Sciences, Prof Dr. Munawar Alam Ansari, Dean of Medicine and Allied Sciences, Prof Dr. Moeen Ansari, Dean of Surgery and Allied Sciences, Prof Dr. Ashok Kumar Narsani, Dean of the Prof Dr. Ferz Kalhoro and Dean of Community Medicine and Professor of Public Health Muhammad Ililias, among others. Professor Dr. Sema Naz also joined the meeting later.
