MAims Camel owner to ‘drink water from his field’

Sindh’s prime minister Murad Ali Shah realized a horrible incident in Rohri, Sukkur, where a camel was brutally attacked and his leg amputated by three assailants on Thursday.

According to the reports, an influential owner in the district of Sindh Sukkur supposedly tortured the animal after he entered his farmland to drink water, breaking his leg in the process. The camel owner said that the owner tied the animal to a tractor and dragged it with anger, also hitting it in the face with sticks.

“The owner tortured my camel, broke his leg and dragged it with a tractor. He even hit him in his mouth with sticks,” said the owner.

The incident came to light after a video of the attack went viral on social networks, which led the main minister to take an immediate warning. When qualifying the act of “intolerable” animal cruelty, Shah ordered SSP Sukkur to personally monitor the case, stop perpetrators and guarantee exemplary punishment.

After its directives, Sukkur police launched an intensive operation and arrested two of the three nominees. The first, Qurban Brohi, was arrested today, while the second, Rasool Bux Sheikh, was arrested in a raid carried out by Sho Kandhra in a notice. The raids are ongoing in Rohri and in adjacent areas to track and arrest the third defendant.

The injured camel was treated in Rohri under the supervision of the President of the Syed Kamil Shah District Council, who has submitted a detailed report to the principal minister. A veterinary team at the Rohri Animal Hospital provided initial attention before the animal was transferred to a shelter in Karachi.

Muhammad Amin, the owner of the camel, expressed his gratitude for the rapid action of the government. “We are grateful to Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah and President Kamil Shah for his immediate support and efforts to save my camel,” he said.

The CM reiterated that such acts of cruelty will not be tolerated in Sindh. “The culprits will face all the force of the law,” Shah said.

The brutality has also revived memories of a similar case in Sanghar last year, when a owner supposedly cut a camel’s leg for deviating from his fields. The camel, later called Cammie, was rescued and taken to Karachi under the care of the CDRS Benji project for animal welfare. Six suspects were arrested in relation to that attack, which caused generalized outrage. After months of treatment and rehabilitation, the animal recently stopped in the four legs again with the help of a prosthetic limb.
