An anti -terrorist (ATC) Court in Gujranwala on Friday sentenced the main accused in the attempt of murder against former Prime Minister and founder of PTI Imran Khan for two separate life terms and a fine of RS500,000.
The court found the suspect, Naveed, guilty of terrorism and the murder of PTI Moazzam worker during the attack against Khan in Wazirabad in November 2022. In addition to the two perpetual chains, Naveed also received prison deadlines that vary from three to five years for injuring four other people during the incident.
Two other defendants in the case, Tayyab Jahangir Butt and Waqas were acquitted by the court due to the lack of evidence.
At the beginning of February 2023, the same ATC court had granted bail to another suspect, Ahsan, brother of a local leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), while rejected the Bail Declaration of Waqas Coacusados. Ahsan was released after sending security bonds worth RS500,000.
The case comes from an attack with weapons during the long march of PTI in Wazirabad on November 3, 2022. The attack left Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed and several other injured, while a supporter of PTI, Moazzam, was killed.
Later, Khan accused senior government officials, including Federal Interior Minister, to participate in the plot. The incident led to a political and legal confrontation before the police formally registered the case.
On November 3, a joint research team (JIT) was formed by virtue of the 1997 Anti -Terror Law, and the first information report (FIR) was officially presented on November 7.
