Perhaps the greatest shock after the male basketball parenthesis of the NCAA 2025 tournament was revealed on Sunday was to see the Tar Heels of North Carolina as one of the “first four” teams that will play the state of San Diego to determine who will be No. 11 in the southern region.
There is a great contingent that is not very happy with that decision of the Selection Committee.
Social networks exploded with a violent reaction after the Tar Heels were named as the last 68 team to arrive, and there is some support for that vitriol.

The UNC, despite the historical pedigree of the program, was only 1-12 in the games of quadrant 1, which the selection committee determines as a game against a team that is located in the top 30 of the network (the NCAA evaluation tool) at home, against a 1-50 classified team on a neutral court and 1-75 in the competitions outside.
Bubba Cunningham, the Atlético de Tar Heels director who is also the president of the NCAA tournament selection committee, explained the process that entered the UNC that did.
“Obviously, I’m going to differ that to [vice committee chair] Keith [Gill]”Cunningham replied after he was asked about what UNC entered and how it was not a conflict of interest.” But all policies and procedures were followed. And Keith can address exactly how North Carolina was discussed because he was not in the room for any of that. “

Gill replied: “Our policies require the announcement of any school to retire and really abandon the space for those discussions. And they are not allowed to participate in any vote too … we voted in four teams in the field on Saturday night, and we had a contingency vote.
“The contingency vote, that was the last team in the field. And it was based on Memphis-Uab. If Memphis won that game, then that was going to free a place in the tournament and that was going to be North Carolina.”

Despite the answers about why UNC entered, social networks commentators did not waste time reacting when they saw the decision of the Tar Heels.
“Perhaps the worst team that has received a general offer,” said a commentator about X.
Another added: “How did this happen?”
“1-12 vs Q1,” one explained. “NC State was the highest team on the network never remained in 2019 with a 33-rate network. The reason was a 3-9 Q1 record.”
However, it was not completely violent, since some brought the recent games of the Tar Heels against some of the best teams in the country.
“We like it or not, the Tarheels of the last month are among the 30-40 main teams in the country are only based on the current form,” said a commentator. “If you want the maximum quality in the tournament, it is obvious.”
Another added: “Why is someone upset that UNC has to play in the NCAA tournament? [KenPom ratings] and 36 on the network. His quad 1 losses include Kansas, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan St and Duke, and many go down to the cable. Unc deserved to enter. “
UNC finished 22-13 in general and 13-7 in the ACC game while winning two games in the ACC Tournament before being bounced by the Duke Blue Devils No. 1 in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, teams such as Indiana, Virginia Occidental, Boise State and UC Irvine, all of which were in the bubble, did not enter despite having competitive curriculum.
Every year, bubble equipment is disconsolate when their name is not called during the selection show. It is an unfortunate part of the game, but ultimately, the decision is final.
The Tar Heels will play the Aztecs on Tuesday night to determine who will be the seed No. 11 that faces the number 6 of Ole Miss in the southern region.
