Mariah Carey has hinted that something special is coming for the 25th anniversary of Glow, the movie he once called a disaster but has since loved.
talking to VarietyThe 56-year-old confirmed plans are underway, although exact details are still being worked out.
“[There are] Plans for a deluxe edition and a reissue, or maybe just one, I don’t know. We are getting over it. “I’m excited about it,” she said.
The news comes as the film quietly disappeared from streaming services over the past month, sparking speculation that something was on the way.
Whether it’s a deluxe edition, a full reissue, or a combination of both, Carey seems genuinely excited to revisit the project.
It’s a big turnaround for a movie that had one of the toughest openings in Hollywood history.
Glow It hit theaters on September 21, 2001, just ten days after the 9/11 attacks, and the soundtrack was released the same day the tragedy unfolded.
The moment was catastrophic.
The film grossed only $5.3 million worldwide and the critical reception was brutal. Carey herself has been candid about how she felt afterwards.
“I used to hate it. I used to say, ‘Why did I do that?'” he admitted, clearly describing it as “a disastrous failure” that came during a “difficult time” in his life.
But Glow It has had quite a second act.
In 2018, the #JusticeForGlitter movement took off online and surprisingly pushed the soundtrack into iTunes’ top 10 albums chart, 17 years after its original release.
Fans who had come to view the film as a cheesy, misunderstood gem finally had their moment. And Carey got hers. “And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just took on something of its own,” he said.
Whatever the way Glow On the anniversary of the release, one thing is clear: this time, both Carey and her fans are ready for it.
