Martha Plimpton is mourning the loss of her uncle, actor Robert Carradine, who died at age 71 on February 23 after a long battle with bipolar disorder.
“My Uncle Bobby was the best of the eight brothers,” said the Goonies The student took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post in honor of the revenge of the nerds actor.
“Of all of them, he was the best. He was the one who hugged me when I came to visit my dad in Los Angeles for the first time when I was 8 or 9. He hugged me and teased me about being the only Carradine in New York. ‘Come on, ova, hee-ah! Maw-thuh! Get ova, hee-uh!’ He had a terrible New York accent. “I was an alien and Bobby made fun of me for it, and I adored him for it,” he continued with the lengthy caption.
Martha Plimpton described her uncle as “the best actor of the bunch” and praised his talent and kindness at the tribute.

She emphasized that his art was rooted in compassion: “He had an inherent KINDNESS. He was loving, loving and non-judgmental. And he loved honestly. He made mistakes like anyone else, like any human being. But he never lost his decency or his heart.”
The Carradine family confirmed his passing in a statement, acknowledging his decades-long struggle with bipolar disorder and urging compassion around mental health.
