- Marvel has released a new teaser for wonder man
- The Disney+ show will premiere in January 2026
- Their latest round of images appears to include a major story spoiler.
Marvel has released a new trailer for its next wonder man TV series, and it seems to spoil one of the show’s biggest surprises.
The metatextual sitcom was originally set to release in December. However, although Marvel announced that its release had been delayed until next January at New York Comic-Con (NYCC) 2025, the comics titan is not resting on its laurels when it comes to promoting its upcoming Disney+ TV Original.
So we should be happy that more images have surfaced, right? Not if you’re trying to avoid spoilers ahead of the release of the Marvel Phase 6 TV show, because wonder manThe new teaser appears to include a potentially huge plot twist. I will discuss what is shown in more detail after the trailer below, so that come back now if you are actively avoiding wonder man spoilers.
Look
At 0:35, part of a restaurant scene involving Yahya Abdul Mateen-II’s Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery shows the former becoming increasingly anxious about missing out on the lead role in a remake of the ‘Wonder Man’ universe superhero movie.
As Williams’ agitation grows, we begin to hear the noises of… something. A concerned Slattery looks at the table the couple are sitting at and we see the contents of Williams’ drink, the glass it is in and the wooden table begins to shake.
The implication here is that Williams appears to possess superhuman abilities. And, if there was any doubt about it, the final clip of the trailer doubles the pace of the story.
In fact, when Williams arrives at his audition for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remake of the ‘Wonder Man’ movie, he is asked to sign a disclaimer confirming that he does not possess superpowers. Williams conveys this with a simple, calm “yeah,” but the tense music playing in the clip suggests otherwise.
How does Wonder Man get his powers in the comics?
The fact that Marvel is only too happy to tease Williams’ superhuman status so early in its promotional campaign raises two big questions.
First of all, what other surprises await viewers before wonder man Will it fall completely on January 27, 2026? And secondly, and no less important, when and how did he get his superpowers?
I can’t answer the first one, but I can clarify the second one from the perspective of the source material.
In the comics, Williams gains superhuman abilities through a series of ionic energy-based experiments conducted by Baron Zemo. That happens after Zemo breaks him out of prison after Williams is jailed for embezzlement (this was his brother’s idea, FYI) to prop up the munitions company Williams inherits after his father passes away.
It is unlikely that wonder man It will directly adapt Williams’ superhuman origins story. After all, everything I described in the previous paragraph is just a snapshot of a much more complicated origin story that Marvel likely streamlined for Williams’ live-action debut. wonder man It should explain the main character’s superhuman backstory at some point, but I’d be surprised if it hadn’t been rewritten for his introduction to the MCU.
