LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday directed the police and the district administration to understand the sentiments of the protesters in the prevailing situation and treat them with dignity and respect.

She claimed in a social media post that arrangements were being made for iftar for protesters.

The prime minister said all Muslims were grieving and crying, but maintaining peace and order in the country and cities was a collective responsibility.

He appeals to all concerned to fulfill their duty to ensure law and order.

“In this moment of pain, we are united,” he added.

Meanwhile, in her message on the occasion of World Civil Defense Day, the Prime Minister emphasized that revival and strengthening of the institution was the need of the hour.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari called the attack on Iran and the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei “deeply tragic”, saying Pakistan had provided diplomatic and moral support to Tehran and had condemned the aggression at the United Nations.

He urged religious parties and citizens to remain peaceful, warning that violent protests or taking the law into one’s own hands would serve hostile elements.

“If we turn our pain into unrest within our own country, it will benefit the enemy,” he said, appealing to the public to exercise restraint, keep protests peaceful and avoid any damage to life or property.
