Maryam Nawaz announces the University of AI in Lahore, urges the focus on girls’ education

Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the establishment of the First University of Artificial Intelligence (AI) of Pakistan in Lahore, stating that the initiative is scheduled to transform the future of education in the country.

Speaking in the fourth edition of the Diplomacy Forum Antalya 2025 in Türkiye, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the global need for a renewed commitment to the education of girls.

She said that educational initiatives focused on AI in PUNJAB represent an important step forward in the remodeling of traditional learning models to meet the demands of the 21st century.

“The promotion of education based on AI is changing the learning panorama. With the establishment of the first University of Pakistan in Lahore, we are preparing our youth for a more intelligent future and based on technology,” he said.

Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to the first Turkish lady Eemine Erdogan and appreciated the efforts of the Maarif Foundation to organize the forum at a critical global situation. She emphasized that Pakistan and Türkiye, although two nations share a unified spirit and vision, bringing with them a message of solidarity and love of the people of Punjab.

Since he assumed the position in March 2024, the prime minister said he has been working to build on the solid foundations established by former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.

“We begin a new era of development with a renewed spirit, focusing on economic progress, health education and infrastructure,” he said.

He also declared key educational reforms in Punjab:

More than 4,000 improved primary schools

Launch of digital learning rooms in 6,000 schools using touch screens instead of traditional slates

Reopening of previously closed schools

Introduction of 50,000 scholarships based on merits for talented students

Daily milk program in schools to combat malnutrition

Recruitment of 30,000 new teachers per merit

Professional development programs for teachers aligned with modern educational needs

Launch of learning -based learning platforms for students

Maryam Nawaz also presented the concept of “Nawaz Sharif Internet City”, calling him the new face of Pakistan Digital.

“Education is not just about the curriculum, it is a healing force, a means to eliminate deprivation and build a better world,” he said.

In his speech, the prime minister also attracted world attention to humanitarian crises, particularly affecting children in conflict areas.

“Palestinian boys are buried under the rubble. In Afghanistan, girls are denied education. In Jammu and Kashmir busy, boys suffer prejudices and violence. In Sudan, boys must walk miles in search of food,” he lamented.

Maryam Nawaz concluded his speech with a passionate call for inclusive, fair and ready for the future, reaffirming his government’s commitment to take each child, especially in rural areas, to the folds of modern learning.
