Maryam Nawaz reviews the flood situation, orders the mobilization of resources in Punjab

Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered on Wednesday the use of all resources available for flood victims in the province.

I was presiding over a four -hour meeting in which the situation of all areas affected by floods in Punjab was reviewed. Reports were presented and reviewed on relief and rescue activities in the districts affected in the meeting.

The prime minister ordered the interested authorities to adopt emergency measures in hospitals in view of the flood situation in all Punjab districts.

He also visited Shahdara to review the flood situation in the Ravi River. He observed the water level on the Shahdara bridge, the security dam and other protection measures. It was informed of the possible water flow in the river.

The main minister ordered the administration and the departments involved in rescue and relief activities to complete the evacuation of the population and cattle from the river crossings as soon as possible.

Lahore’s deputy commissioner gave an informative session on the situation in the river and the affected areas.

The CM was informed during the meeting earlier on the day that all the relevant departments of the Punjab government were monitoring the flood situation throughout the day. Army services were called for seven districts: Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Nanowal, Faisalabad, Okara and Sargodha.

The district administrations, the Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA), Rescue 1122, the Civil Defense and the Police are dedicated to carrying out rescue and relief operations in the first line.

The districts of Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur were declared affected due to floods on the Sutlej River.

At least 72 villages and 45,000 people in the Kasur district have been seriously affected by the high level of flooding in the river, the prime minister was informed.

It was informed that 12 villages in Pakpattan, 23 in Vehari, 75 in Bahawalnagar and 15 in Bahawalpur had been affected by floods. To deal with the situation, 130 ships, motorized ships, bicycles, 1,300 life vests and 245 rings of life to the affected districts have been delivered.

More than 150,000 people have been established and 35,000 cattle to safe places and aid camps along with medical and veterinarian services. More than 2,600 flood victims are being treated in medical aid fields.

The provincial principal minister, Marriyum Aurengzeb, the main secretary and other senior officers attended the meeting.

Maryam also expressed his gratitude for the safe evacuation of 25 people trapped in flood water in the Shakargarh area. “Each life is beautiful. Those who rescued the 25 people are national heroes,” he said.

She paid tribute to the Shakargarh administration and rescue team for performing a timely rescue operation. The prime minister said: “Flood is a natural disaster, but the security of the life and property of people will be guaranteed at all costs.”

He appealed to people to stay away from the river and stream courses, emphasizing the need to move to safe places on time.

The president of the Provincial Cabinet Committee of Disaster Management, Khawaja Salman Rafique, said during a visit to Ravi River to review the situation that instructions for the immediate evacuation of citizens of the river bed in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Nankana had been issued.

The arrangements to deal with high -level flooding in the river in Jasar were checked on the occasion.

The minister said that all rescue and relief agencies should remain on a maximum alert and that there was no space for negligence. He said that residents of the affected areas must move to safe places and provide all the facilities in the Socorro camps.

The PDMA guarantees continuous coordination throughout the province and district administrations have been ordered to remain active. The minister urged citizens to remain at home and avoid unnecessary trips.
