Masters 2025: Angel Cabrera between notables to Miss Cut in Augusta

The Masters is where the best hope to bring its game to, but does not always happen.

This year’s classification table is full of players with 10 main victories combined within the first five, including the twice winner and champion current Scottie Scheffler.

However, as with all golf bullfights, there are some big names that did not advance at the weekend.

Here are some players who go home early from Augusta.

Angel Cabrera

Cabrera, the winner of the 2009 Green Jacket, returned to Augusta for the first time since 2019 after fulfilling time in prison for assault and intimidation. The journalists asked him if he “deserved” to play in this year’s masters, given the time he spent in jail for his crimes. All winners have an exemption for life in the tournament.

Your answer?

“Why not?”

He was 11 years old in his two rounds, tied for the second score.

Dustin Johnson

On the weekend of the Masters 2020 winner ended up in heartbreak. Johnson had 1 envelope entering 18, but an expensive double fogey sent him under the cutting line. It is his second straight cut in Augusta. In 2023, he ended up tied in 48. His best end since he won was a tie in 12 in 2022.

Brooks koepka

Koepka attacked the major in 2023, ended up tied secondly in Augusta and winning the PGA championship. Last year was the opposite, and this week in Augusta it was a continuation. Like his Liv Johnson partner, Koepka was in the row to play the weekend, being a couple of pairs during the 16th, but after a 17-year-old bogey and a quadruple-bogey on 18, his tournament score shot at 5-over.

Will Zalatoris

Fans are still waiting for Zalatoris to come out, but it didn’t happen this week. Zalatoris opened day 2 on and separated his first 10 holes, but bit 11 and bit herself 12 and 15, all except taking him out of the race. Its week ends 8 above.

Tony Finau

After drawing in fifth place in Genesis, Finau has played a weak golf, without finishing among the top 30 in any of its last five tournaments. He gave a dock and put under the cutting line at one point, but could not endure.

Russell Henley

Henley was a sleeping for many to run to a green jacket (including us). But, from the jump, he fought. An 8 out of 80 put it in despair mode on Friday, and although it was 5 low for a 67 on Friday, its 3 super for the tournament was not enough.

Phil Mickelson

Mickelson’s double bogey in torque 5 15 left it under the cutting line. Then he bogeted 16 and 18 to fall short. SociĆ³ to the world with a draw in second place two years ago after an incredible final round, but since then he has not been able to find that same magic.
