Maxell’s new cassette player has given me a great nostalgia fever, and if you were close in the 80s, you will know exactly why. Maxell created one of the most emblematic television ads of all time, embedded below, in which the sound of his tapes was so powerful that it was like sitting in a wind tunnel.
This Bluetooth player is not so strong, but every centimeter from the outside shouts “eighties!” – And, of course, the interior is considerably more modern.

As you can see in the images, it is a compact cassette player with the usual control buttons on the top and a headset and volume on the side.
However, there are two additional bits that you will not find in a tape player of the 80s: a Bluetooth button and a USB-C load port. This player uses a rechargeable battery instead of AAS of the old school, and can broadcast wirelessly to his Bluetooth headphones. The Bluetooth version is 5.4.
The battery life is a claimed nine hours with cable headphones and seven SIN.
There is no recording here, and there is no reduction in Dolby noise; The battery is incorporated, so you must take a cable if you are taking the player traveling. And unfortunately there is one more warning: it is not officially available outside of Japan, although there are tons on eBay.
The prices are variable, to say at least: I am looking for lists that range from $ 202 / £ 147 to $ 398 / £ 300.
That makes it a little more expensive than the equivalent player of We Are Rewind that also has Bluetooth, but it is possible that it is more like wanting to buy the Maxell because it is much smaller: the We Arewind player is a thick and thick beast.
And the fixture CP13 is also much cheaper and closer to being the right size, but that does not have Bluetooth, so again the Maxell could be the best option if you really want to use it.
