Pakistan remains a peace-loving country but will respond decisively to any aggression, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Sunday, citing the armed forces’ response to India during Marka-e-Haq in May as an example of the country’s resolve. Speaking to the media at the Presidency following the departure of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, he referred to Quranic verses to draw parallels between historical battles and the spirit in which Pakistani forces operated. Field Marshal Asim said the army had taken a step forward. "in the way of Allah" and emerged with honor during Marka-e-Haq. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace, but any attempt by an enemy to impose war will be met with the same firmness demonstrated earlier this year. Referring again to Quranic guidance, the army chief said Pakistani soldiers fought with conviction and purpose. He added that the victory achieved in May was granted by Allah, stressing that the success was a divine blessing.
