The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, was involved in an elevation accident while visiting the Abbasi Shaheed hospital on his official tour, said Express News.
The incident occurred when the mayor, together with the deputy mayor and other officials, addressed the elevator during his hospital inspection.
Due to overcrowding, the elevator did not work and issued a sudden decrease. Fortunately, all passengers, including the mayor, were unharmed in the incident.
The hospital staff responded quickly, opening the elevator doors from abroad and safely evacuating everyone.
Previously, a woman, Samia Arshad, had died after falling through an elevator axis in a hospital in Karimabad, Federal B area, hours after giving birth to a girl.
The hospital staff had transferred her on a stretcher when the elevator moved unexpectedly, which made her 20 feet fall. She had suffered fatal head injuries from autumn.
The hospital staff had not properly assured the victim, and the elevator was in poor condition.
The woman’s family had decided not to follow legal actions at that time, but had expressed concern about the use of the defective elevator hospital.
The Sindh health commission was investigating the incident, but a formal complaint had not yet filed. The hospital had confirmed the police account of the events and had declared that the elevator remained regularly.
