Mechanical staircase installed at Lahore train station

Pakistan Railways has launched a stage project to install mechanical stairs in key stations such as Lahore, Karachi and fine, at a total cost of RS120 million. According to Railroad Minister, Lahore Railways Station’s mechanical stairs will be operational as of June 25.

In the first phase, the work is underway in Lahore Railways Station, where the mechanical stairs are installed on platforms 2 and 4 at a cost of RS60 million. The installation is almost complete.

Established in 1859 during the British era, Lahore Railways Station attends hundreds of thousands of passengers daily. In the absence of mechanical stairs, older passengers, women and children often fought with stairs while transporting luggage. Given the difficulties faced by rail travelers, the administration decided to install mechanical stairs that will be operational soon.

Up to 50 million passengers travel annually in trains. The Railroad administration said that after Lahore, the mechanical stairs will be installed in terms of phase in Karachi, fine, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other stations.

It has estimated the total cost at RS120 million. The work for the installation of mechanical stairs at the Karachi Railways station will also begin this month. In addition, the administration is also building comfortable waiting areas for passengers.
