Megan Fox talks about her state of mind during the first years of her career.
The 39-year-old actress, who famously played the lead role in Jennifer’s Body in 2009, says she was full of rage and hurtful in those days.
Speaking at a special screening of the film in Los Angeles, Fox discussed the advice she would give her younger self.
“Oh, I don’t know if he would give me advice. I think about where I was at that point in my life, so lost, so full of that anger that I had about how I’d been treated in the industry,” Fox said, “and how I was dealing with the fame and the constant… at that time, before we started filming.”
“I just left a premiere for something I had to go to, I’m forced to go, and I remember the paparazzi were very ruthless back then, the way they talked to women,” she recalled. “And I walked out just to try to get to my car, and everyone was shooting. And this guy was like, ‘Megan, why are you such a bitch?’ And another guy says, ‘Megan, do you think you’re overrated? “The Internet says so,’ and I’m just trying to do my job.”
“They asked me to be at this premiere. I’m trying to get to my car. So I felt all this pain and sadness and also anger and rage that I needed somewhere to go,” Fox continued. “And like I said, being able to have permission to go off the deep end even between takes or maybe the entire time we were there, it was very cathartic for me.”
“I read the script and I think it resonated with me because there’s something about it, whether perceived or not, I felt like I was being persecuted at that point in my career, and I was struggling a lot with fame and I was kind of traumatized by fame,” Fox said.
“And then I resonated with those deeper layers of… you know, before she becomes a monster, she’s just a teenager who is sacrificed for the benefit of someone else,” the star continued. “And that resonated a lot because that’s how I got there…I came into this industry, I think I was 19 when I made my first big movie, and I felt like that reflected these energies that existed within me.”
