In a moving speech at the World Economic Forum, MEL B recently called for better budget allocation and justice systems that are more sensitive to survivors of domestic violence.
Melanie Brown, famous as Mel B, gave a speech on domestic violence as a patron of women’s help, calling for a more practical approach where ‘actions’ matter more than words.

Recalling UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statement, who mentioned Mel’s work during a speech in Parliament, he emphasized the need for more funding from domestic abuse to domestic abuse charities. “But it’s not just talking about it. It’s getting the funding,” he said.
Mel suggested the government allocate more money into charities that directly help survivors.
“If they just put it aside and allocate it correctly and go to a charity with a foundation (in domestic abuse)… the money goes directly to the survivor and they actually get the benefits from it,” he also noted a bit more the conversation.
Referring to the judicial system, she said the process of locating an abuser in court puts a woman in a miserable state: “I’m going to stumble, I’m going to sweat, I’m going to have anxiety.” She recounted while hypothesizing the reaction of those women.
Relevant to this, Mel B was awarded an honorary doctorate for her campaigns to help victims of domestic violence, in May 2024. Around the same time as her ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte, she filed a £3.9 million defamation claim over the Mel’s abuse allegations.
