Metro bus crashes into popular DC restaurant, luckily it was empty

A Metro bus crashed into the popular restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood on Saturday morning, April 4.

The bus ended up partially inside the building, but fortunately no one was inside the restaurant.

Four people have been injured and taken to hospital for evaluation. Among the injured are the driver and passengers.

DC Fire and EMS officials reported the tragic incident occurred around 7th and Q streets NW.

The incident occurred when another vehicle collided with the bus, causing it to veer into the AMBAR restaurant, a popular lunch and dinner spot. Luckily, the building was empty at the time.

Utility was shut off and firefighters began searching for victims while a collapse team checked the structural integrity of the building. After the bus was removed around noon, it was decided there were no issues with the structural integrity of the building.

Emergency personnel remained on scene until late morning while the investigation took place. The Metropolitan Police Department and DC Fire & EMS have taken the lead in investigating the cause of this accident.
