“He took a lot of offense. He definitely caught me off guard,” O’Ward said Wednesday. “I was a little surprised by the coincidences of that and, you know, what it means … I don’t think it has proud of many people, to say the least.”

“We didn’t know plans to incorporate our images as part of yesterday’s announcement,” Indycar said in a statement on Wednesday. “According to our public policy approach and political problems, we are communicating our preference that our IP is not used in relation to this matter.”

O’ward said he didn’t see the publication until a friend sent him a text message about it.

“I really haven’t read too much because I don’t think I want,” he said.
