Tony Dungy’s refusal to talk about his vote for the Pro Football Hall of Fame has got people talking.
First, his own NBC colleague Rodney Harrison appeared to attack Dungy during the Super Bowl pregame show, saying “you guys were wrong” about not voting for Bill Belichick.
Dungy has not said whether he voted for Belichick, citing an “oath” he took to avoid discussing any behind-the-scenes action. Dungy, of course, is allowed to reveal his own vote, but not those of others.

But Dungy’s silence on his own ballot led to criticism from New York Yankees play-by-play announcer and New York radio host Michael Kay.
“Tony Dungy, again, who is paid by NBC, was asked on the endless pregame show whether or not he voted for Bill Belichick. He said he wasn’t going to argue with that. First of all, if I were NBC, I’d fire him on the spot,” Kay said on his own show Monday. “We’re paying them whatever amount of money we’re paying them. They’re discussing it. What’s its value to us if it’s news and they don’t discuss it with us? I mean, for him not to discuss it, you know he’s one of the 11 people who didn’t vote for Bill Belichick…
“You do something that is a big part of history. You prevent the greatest coach of all time from being a first-round Hall of Famer, and you don’t have the guts to discuss it? You have the temerity to say, ‘No, I’m not going to discuss that.’ [he] “It doesn’t go well with this.”

Outside of the category Belichick was in (with Robert Kraft, Roger Craig, Ken Anderson and LC Greenwood) he didn’t receive enough votes. Craig was the only one of that group voted into the Hall of Fame.
Although Dungy didn’t reveal his own vote, he did talk a little about the process.
“People think we voted against Bill Belichick,” Dungy said. “We didn’t. In fact, the exact same vote. In fact, if the exact same vote had taken place, the same totals as two years ago, Bill Belichick would have been there and so would another worthy Hall of Famer and that’s why I’m upset. That’s not right.”

Belichick won eight Super Bowls during his time in the NFL: six with the New England Patriots and two as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.
