- Microsoft will automatically install the Copilot application on your laptop soon
- Users in the EEE are protected against automatic installation
- The Copilot application is just a renowned Microsoft 365 application
Microsoft has confirmed that the Microsoft 365 Copilot application will begin automatically on Windows devices with applications of Microsoft 365 desktop customers from October 2025.
However, recent EU decisions have influenced Microsoft’s decision to automatically install the AI application, because devices in the EEE will not receive automatic installation.
Redmond frames the Copilot application as a centralized entry point for Genai’s experiences in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more, but many users will not be happy with the update.
Microsoft is pressing you more AI
Users have already taken to the Internet to complain about Microsoft’s invasive approach to boost their AI tools: installing a completely new application that appears in the Windows start menu and is enabled by default could be the final drop drop for many.
Administrators may choose not to participate through the Microsoft 365 app administration center, however, the default option approach could be an unpleasant movement.
In early 2025, a separate configuration was added to allow administrators to set the Copilot application to the Windows taskbar.
However, although Microsoft’s impulse is evident, it is not a completely new application. Instead, the company explained on a support page that the Microsoft 365 application (Office) has simply been renamed Microsoft 365 Copilot.
“The application remains its starting place to find, create, share and collaborate in one place with access to its favorite productivity applications,” Microsoft wrote.
“This update represents the additional ways to work with co -pilot for tasks such as asking questions, creating content, writing of documents and building agents with a work account.”
All this comes as the technological giant continues to fight with the adoption of Windows 11. His latest operating system finally reached almost parity with Windows 10 in June 2025, before overcoming it in July. Since then, the two have approached again, which could indicate some sales.
