- Microsoft and the partners have a new Windows resilience strategy for companies
- WRI changes antivirus tools outside the nucleus for better reliability and recovery
- Crowdstrike and Bitdefender praise the new Microsoft approach for security collaboration
Microsoft wants to avoid reaction reaction that followed the interruption related to Crowdstrike 2024, and is launching a new frame to do so.
With its new Windows resilience initiative (WRI), the technological giant is looking to harden the Windows platform against possible interruptions.
Announced in Ignite, WRI is Microsoft’s strategy to generate resilience in the nucleus of how Windows works, between updates, third -party integrations and final point security.
Resilience is not optional
In WRI’s heart there are three focus areas: ecosystem collaboration, practical orientation and product innovation.
Microsoft brought together safety suppliers and government officials at the Windows Point Safety Ecosystem Summit in 2024 to begin that work. Since then, the company has been working closely with its partners of the Microsoft Virus initiative (MVI) to improve the way Windows handles security software and operating system updates.
Microsoft said the goal is to reduce interruption while maintaining high safety standards. “Resilience is not optional: it is a strategic imperative,” said David Weston, head of Enterprise security and OS in Microsoft, in a new blog post.
Security suppliers are not only looking from the barrier. Florin Virlan, Senior Vice President of Products and Engineering in Bitdefender Customer Solutions Group, said: “Bitdefender is pleased to collaborate with Microsoft to redefine how safety is delivered to Windows users. Through the Windows resilience initiatives and the development of the safety protection of Windows security points.
Alex Ionescu, director of Crowdstrike Technology Innovation, added: “We talked in Wesses last year to emphasize the importance of our industry joining and, since then, we have seen a significant interest of customers in progress towards a greater capacity of capacity capacity.
Part of the update is structural: Microsoft is changing the antivirus and final point protection tools outside the Windows nucleus and user mode. This change should facilitate the recovery of problems and limit their scope.
Microsoft aims to launch these capabilities to partners in a private preview soon.
Beyond security suppliers, Microsoft is also updating Windows 11 to include new recovery tools and reliability characteristics.
A simplified blocking screen, faster restart processes and a new tool called Rapid Machine Recovery will begin to be implemented with Windows 11 24h2.
Bandwidth savings, such as connected cache and safe and flexible printing through universal printing, are also refining to keep companies in operation with less interruptions.
Windows 365 Reserve, a new offer, will also allow users to quickly change to a cloud when their main device is out of service.
