- Microsoft Excel will now disable the types of blocked files of work book links by default
- The files will not be updated or showed a #bloken error
- Other security updates will soon reach Excel, so be sure to update
The external work book links that point to the types of files blocked by the Excel Confidence Center will be deactivated by predetermined from October 2025, since Microsoft hardens in the reduction of potential safety risks associated with indirect access to non -compatible or high -risk files in their spreadsheet software.
When politics comes into play, workbooks with those types of links will not be able to update or show a #Bloked error.
Confirmed Microsft users would see a Banner Warning of Business Bars in Build 2509, but the new or renewed links to the types of blocked files will be avoided from Build 2510 if the policy is not confused by users or administrators.
Excel to disable the links of work books external to the types of blocked files
Once the change enters into force, any type of file listed within the configuration of the file block of the trusted center will be blocked when reference is made through external links. “Inspecting the error will confirm that a restricted file is due to a type of file,” Microsoft added on a support page.
Microsoft does not recommend re -enable external links refreshing to blocked files: “Disable these protections reduces safety and should only be done with caution.”
Users willing to run that risk can open the registration editor, click on ‘Start’, click on ‘Run’, write ‘Regedit’ and then click on ‘Accept’. It is recommended to make a backup of the registration before making changes.
By disabled them by default, Microsoft will close a path often used in phishing and another delivery of malware that exploits indirect access to risky types of risky files.
A separate list in the Microsoft 365 roadmap titled “The new configuration of the trusted center to block the file is opened using insecure protocols” explains “the new configuration in the trusted center will allow users to restrict or allow the file to open to the FTP/HTTP protocols and the feedback protocols of the call to the call to the part of the so -called remote procedure (FPRPC) “. This change is expected to unfold this month.
