- An error that broke the jump links in the start menu was previously marked with the April 10 update of Windows 10
- That technical problem was floating in previous updates (returning to February)
- Microsoft has solved the problem, which was related to a change to carry a panel related to the Microsoft account to the start menu in Windows 10
Do you remember that strange Windows 10 problem where the April update for the operating system broke part of the start menu for some people? The good news is that Microsoft has solved this error.
If this was lost, it was a failure that meant jump lists, additional options that appear with right click on an icon, it no longer worked properly for some applications in the start menu.
Windows last caught a Microsoft update about the problem, which confirmed that this error is (or was) present in Windows 10, and also that it is now solved, fortunately.
In an update of the health board of the version, in the section of known problems, Microsoft recognized the error and admitted that it was more widespread than the most recent accumulated update in April for Windows 10. In fact, this initial menu has been present since the previous update of February (optional).
Microsoft explains that the problem related to bringing “control experiences” of the Microsoft account to the start menu, a limited deployment that began in March 2025. (Then, it would also have been present in the update of the end of February, which was a preview of the full version of March).
What was happening with the introduction of that feature made the functionality of the jump list disappear for some Windows 10 users. When doing this, Microsoft stopped the launch of that addition related to the Microsoft account to the start menu on April 25. There was also a solution.
Microsoft says: “This [jump link] The problem was resolved through a change of service that was implemented on April 25, 2025. If you still face this problem, make sure your device is connected to the Internet to receive the automatic resolution that has been implemented. After the next restart, this problem must be solved. “
Analysis: Backporting Blues
Windows Last, who experienced this problem in some of his PC with Windows 10, has confirmed that the error is now cured in those devices, so it is good to listen to it.
While jump lists, which provide additional context -sensitive skills for certain applications in the start menu, such as opening recently used files, ‘jumping’ directly to them, may sound like a quite lower thing, some people use them a lot. And this functionality really broke with the workflows of those Windows 10 users, and it bother them seriously (as can be seen in some of the complaints transmitted online).
When this error was first reported, I assumed that it could be the result of the support characteristics of Windows 11, and that turned out to be the case. The Microsoft accounts panel that is introduced into the start menu is already in Windows 11, and is taking Windows 10, or it was, anyway, although that work now stops.
It can be (and probably) incoming, then, although I am not sure why Microsoft is providing additions for Windows 10 at this point, when the operating system is less than half a year on the clock before the support is exhausted. Perhaps that is a measure of how important the company feels that is to promote the visibility of Microsoft accounts.
