- Windows 10 loses support, but M365 applications on Windows 10 no … yet
- The support is limited, and users can experience performance problems
- The adoption of Windows 11 will soon surpass Windows 10
Although Windows 10 will lose support on October 14, 2025, Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 applications in Windows 10 for another three years.
However, despite the fact that the company will continue to support its productivity applications, it warns users of possible performance and reliability problems if they insist on using the outgoing operating system, urging them to consider the update.
In addition, errors or requests for functions for exclusive problems of Windows 10 will not be accepted, marking the disappearance of the operating system.
“To help maintain security while making the transition to Windows 11, Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 applications in Windows 10 for three years after Windows 10 reaches the end of the support,” Microsoft shared.
Only customers a valid M365 subscription may open new cases, but three limitations will be established once Microsoft withdraw to Windows 10 this October.
First, if the problem is exclusive to Windows 10, users will be asked to update Windows 11. Secondly, if the client cannot update Windows 11, perhaps due to hardware restrictions, the technical assistance equipment can only offer solution and solution problems. Finally, there will be no option to register an error or other requests for functions.
Canalys industry analysts have already indicated that 2025 could be the year in which the remaining users end up updating their support devices for Windows 11 and future operating systems, however, tariffs induced by the commercial war could turn that idea. “It is likely that subsequent quarter this year will see a slowdown as inventory levels stand out and customers face higher prices,” said main analyst Isehan Dutt.
Despite an annual growth of 9% in PC shipments worldwide during the first three months of 2025, Canals predicts only a 2% increase by 2025 as a whole for the US market.
Although it took many months in Windows 11 to obtain generalized popularity, the operating system now represents 43.7% of all Windows facilities (through Statcounter). Windows 10 still leads, with a market share of 52.9%.
