- The price of the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X has increased in Japan and Australia, amid a RAM crisis
- The price of the handheld seems to be gradually increasing in multiple regions.
- Neither Asus nor Microsoft have confirmed why the price increases occurred
The current RAM crisis is sweeping the entire PC hardware market, with prices skyrocketing and manufacturers forced to rethink their release strategies, particularly Valve and its Steam Machine, and we may already be looking at the next victim.
As reported by PC Gamer, the price of the Asus ROG Xbox Ally This is very similar to the recent price increase in Japan of 30,000 yen, putting the price of the handheld at 169,800 yen for consumers.
Neither Microsoft nor Asus have confirmed why these price increases have occurred, but it’s worth noting that the lower-tier ROG Xbox Ally is still at its original price in both Australia and Japan, which features 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space.
Meanwhile, the Ally
Valve is the latest to be affected by the shortage, as the Steam Deck OLED is now intermittently out of stock in several regions. We’ve also seen that Sony is reportedly delaying the launch of the PS6 until 2029, while Nintendo is considering a Switch 2 price increase, all of which is a result of the RAM crisis.
It’s no coincidence then that the price of the ROG Xbox Ally X has suddenly increased in Australia and Japan in the same week, particularly for the model that uses more RAM and storage. Those higher-end components will naturally be more sought after by both consumers and AI data centers, and will be more expensive for manufacturers to produce due to shortages in the PC hardware market.
Unfortunately, that means potential bad news for other regions outside of Japan and Australia.
Price increase expected in other regions
PC hardware has seen price increases across the board since early 2026, and the impact of memory and storage shortages appears to be hitting multiple regions at a dizzying pace, with no signs of stopping.
I’m willing to bet that other regions will be next to suffer price increases on ROG Xbox Ally
The RAM crisis also has the potential to encourage resellers, particularly with current and upcoming systems like the Steam Machine or Steam Deck OLED, respectively, as the latter is still available in the UK and other regions. The crisis is a complicated situation for all companies, manufacturers and consumers, which seems to get worse every day with new reports of production disruptions, unprecedented price increases and shortages.
The sooner the AI bubble bursts and shortages are not as frequent, the more stable the market will become, but judging by the current situation, that will not happen in the short term.
