The Costa Rican authorities provided an update on the investigation of the death of Miller Gardner, the 14 -year -old son of the former Yankees player in New York, Brett Gardner.
The general director of Judicial Investigation Costa Rican (OIJ), Randall Zúñiga, told journalists at a press conference on Monday that “high levels of carbon monoxide pollution” were found in the family hotel room, and that could have been the cause of the adolescent’s death.
“It is also important to keep in mind that next to [the family’s] Room there is a specialized machine room, from which it is believed that some form of pollution may have reached the rooms, which could cause the incident, “Zúñiga said in Spanish, through the New York Post.
Zúñiga added that the OIJ notified both the local Fire Department and the Ministry of Health to “take appropriate measures regarding this pollution confirmed in the room”, and that the OIJ was working together with the FBI in the United States while “they expect the final results of forensic toxicology.”

The Gardner family was on vacation in Costa Rica when they announced their tragic loss.
“We have many questions and so few answers at this time, but we do know that he died peacefully as he slept on the morning of Friday, March 21,” the Gardners said in a statement, which was released by the Yankees.
Brett and his wife Jessica Gardner also said that other family members became ill in vacations.
The first reports suggested that Miller was probably died from suffocation in his dream due to food poisoning, although that theory was minimized.

The officials have interviewed the doctor’s employees, the hotel and the restaurant, and are checking security images.
The Gardner family shared details of the next funeral and reflected on his life in the obituary, which It was published in the Charleston Post and Courier on Monday.
“The death of the null Miller leaves in the hearts of his family, friends, teammates, teachers, coaches and others will feel for years. The Gardner family will forever appreciate the places they visited, the people they met, the friends they made and the memories they created together,” said the obituary.

Brett Gardner played for the Yankees of 2008-2021, and was part of the last World Cup Championship in 2009. Gardner is one of the few Yankees who have been teammates with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodríguez, and then Aaron plays many years later.
